RavenBoysCOVER Hi RESEven if Blue hadn’t been told her true love would die if she kissed him, she would stay away from boys. especially the ones from the local private school. Known as the Raven Boys, they only mean trouble.

But this is the year that everything will change for Blue.

This is the year that she will be drawn into the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys. And the year Blue will discover that magic does exist.

This is the year she will fall in love.

Title: The Raven Boys

Author: Maggie Stiefvater

Publication Date: 18th September 2012

Series: YES!!!!! First book out of 4. It’s a completed series, called The Raven Cycle.

The Characters:

Blue Sargent (I love her name) is the female protagonist, and I love her. She is so interesting, kind and special, without knowing how to throw a knife, or slash someone’s throat.

She meets 4 boys, and although she knows that she shouldn’t get involved with them, she does and she can’t help it. And those 4 guys… I LOVE THEM. SERIOUSLY. They’re all so so SO different from each other. I love how they aren’t your typical male besties – they all have their own problems and have bonded together because of them.I seriously loved how real FRIENDSHIPS between girls and guys were written, instead of having every male character becoming a love interest of some degree.

BUT SERIOUSLY, each of them Raven Boys are just as lovable and it is SO hard to have a favourite. *^*

The Plot:

I love the plot. The blurb reveals next to nothing about it, but I promise you… It is reeeeeaaally good! At first, when I read the blurb, I was a bit like, “Eh? Kiss? KIlling true love? Sounds like some sad fairytale.”

I WAS WROOOOOONG. Seriously, if the blurb is the only reason you want to read the book, then you will be disappointed. There are no confessions of undying love, no tragic romance scenes, and certainly no kisses. But even so, I LOVED IT. It’s like a completely different story to the back, and really, that only serves to give you a tiny little glimpse into what might be in store for you.

The plot had quite a few twists in it, and I was HOOKED. The plot has quite a bit of mystery to it, and that’s why I loved it so much I guess. LIKE, CAN SOMEONE JUST TELL ME WHERE THIS WELSH KING THAT HAS BEEN DEAD FOR 5164561 YEARS IS??

My only gripe was, that it actually took a while for everything to be set up, and I was nearly screaming at the characters TO JUST GET A MOVE ON, LOOK AT EACH OTHER AND DO SOMETHING. Like, do you know how frustrating it is, when you know what’s supposed to happen BUT IT DOESN’T HAPPEN FOR ANOTHER 10 CHAPTERS?

The Writing:

I love Maggie Stiefvater’s writing! It is so clear and simple, yet conveys the emotions of the characters perfectly! Although I say it’s simple, it doesn’t lose the magic in it, and it’s just so easy to read for all ages. Each character has their own voice, and i found it easy to differentiate between them.

I found it to be a really refreshing break from reading epic fantasy novels and Shakespeare plays.

The Conclusion:

To conclude, basically…I loved this book. It was simple, fun and kinda short being around 400 pages. I loved all the characters and there were moments where I was sooooo hooked. My only gripe really is about the slow beginning. Despite the fact that there were events, I felt like they didn’t connect the main characters together fast enough and this frustrated me at times.

  • Simple, clear writing style
  • No annoying, unneccessary romantic relationships between Blue and EVERY guy

  • Slow beginning to get to the action

  1. AHHHH I am SO happy you enjoyed this book so much! I started the series recently, and I just finished reading the second book, and it just gets better and better <3 Just like you, I was hooked by the plot, but it took me a bit of time to get into the story, and to wait for things to set up and actually happen. But once it did, well I forgot all about the slow beginning, I was too much into the story haha.
