Seventeen-year-old Snow lives within the walls of the Whittaker Institute, a high security mental hospital in upstate New York. Deep down, she knows she doesn’t belong there, but she has no memory of life outside, except for the strangest dreams. And then a mysterious, handsome man, an orderly in the hospital, opens a door – and Snow knows that she has to leave .
She finds herself in icy Algid, her true home, with witches, thieves, and a strangely alluring boy named Kai. As secret after secret is revealed, Snow discovers that she is on the run from a royal lineage she’s destined to inherit, a father more powerful and ruthless than she could have imagined, and choices of the heart that could change everything. Heroine or villain, queen or broken girl, frozen heart or true love, Snow must choose her fate .
A wonderfully icy fantastical romance, with a strong heroine choosing her own destiny, Danielle Paige’s irresistibly page-turning Snow Queen is like Maleficent and Frozen all grown up.

Title: Stealing Snow

Author: Danielle Paige

Publication Date: 6th October 2016

Series: Yep! I think it’s a trilogy.

Ok. Not gonna lie here, but this book took me OVER A MONTH TO READ. I’m not that fast a reader, but I can read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2 days. This book was less than 400 pages so it was short. But it took me too long to read. I just couldn’t get into it, and you’ll see why.

The Characters:

Snow is the main character (obviously) and she has special pooooooowers – Snow. Yeah, no surprise there. She has the power of snow and is amaaaaaazingly powerful, except she needs to learn to use her powers. Oh and she’s also part of a prophecy. It all felt like a mesh of clichés to me to be honest.

Bale enters pretty soon in the book. He’s another patient at the same mental hospital and he’s Snow’s love interest.

Or so I thought.

Throughout the entire book, Snow encounters other male characters (2 to be exact) and she literally crushes on all of them. She thinks about kissing them (and actually kissed one) while still fantasising and dreaming of Bale. Needless to say, I was very annoyed. Like, MAKE YOUR MIND UP. *Whacks her head with a block of cheese*

Other characters that come in didn’t stick with me. They didn’t feel real and there was practically NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Later on, when she meets a group of girls, they were all literally the same to me. I could not tell the difference.

And I’m not sure what’s the deal with any of the guys. Danielle Paige seemed to try too hard to make the guys seem alluring. The “handsome man” mentioned in the blurb did not attract me at all. There was nothing about him that made me squeal or fangirl and the same goes for Kai.

The Plot:

Again, like I said, it was a mesh of cliches. Clueless girl finds out she is the “Chosen One.” She has to go on a journey to master her powers while the world’s destiny rests on her shoulders. Oh and she has a murderous parent, seeking to destory her. Woooooowwww.

There are a couple of heists thrown in but none of them excited me. There were also a few really really random plot twists but it didn’t leave me gasping for air. I was more like, “Eh? What? Huh…Ok.”

The Writing:

The writing was boring. Bland. I didn’t like it. It wasn’t magical and I couldn’t feel it.

None of it made me laugh and I really really struggled to read it. I almost dropped it, but I kept going, hoping I’d find some redemption somewhere. Nope.

The Conclusion:

This book took me too long to read and I seriously didn’t enjoy it. The beginning felt like a good build up to a really epic explosion…but then it just fell flat and I didn’t know what to do. The characters annoyed me and I didn’t like them. The writing was bad and URGGHHHHHH I JUST-

  • Short read – less than 400 pages

  1. I’m reading this at the moment and so far it’s leaning to a 3 star review for me. I agree with a lot of what you have to say but this is pulling me on both ends of the spectrum. At times I think ‘holy shit what is going on’, then nothing will happen for awhile lol.
