So I’ve been blogging for nearly a year now (SERIOUSLY WHERE HAS TIME GONE?) and back when I started, I literally had NO CLUE what I was doing. (Bit of an idiot move but hey, ninjas take risks.) I discovered this thing called book blogging, and literally just thought, “HEY I WANNA DO THAT TOO.” So I set up a blog on WordPress, and now I ended up here.
So without further ado…Let me present you…
Things I Wish I’d Known Before I Started Blogging
Blogging takes up a lot of time
Seriously why did no one tell me this??? I genuinely thought that all I had to do was type up a few words occasionally. No one told me that I’d have to plan my posts, promote myself, take photos, edit them and make blog graphics out of them. (This is optional but like, I like things to look good AND NOT EYESORES.)
And I did not expect to suddenly have a massive boom in my TBR list. Before, I used to be stuck on finding books. Now I’m stuck for TIME to even read books. And when I do get time, I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO READ BECAUSE THERE ARE LIKE 658294 BOOKS ON MY TBR AND JUST PICKING ONE BOOK OUT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. #BookwormProblems
Basically… You have zero life after you start blogging. And zero sleep.
Blogging can be expensive
I didn’t realise how many more books I’d discover just by blogging, and since nowadays I don’t go to the library as much because I love buying my books (and you never know where the books have been bleurgh), my bookish obsession has gotta out of hand >< This doesn’t apply to only old books either. I hear about ARCs, and if I don’t get them, I have no choice but to buy them myself…
SOMEBODY LOCK MY BANK ACCOUNT PLEASE – THANK YOU. (I would be forever indebted to you. Actually no thanks, I’D STILL END UP SPENDING.)
This, and I keep discovering book merch (seriously why did no one tell me this was a thing?) and you ALL know how much self-control I have… And I’ve just switched to self-hosting as well, which doesn’t help.
There will always be scary piranhas out there
The book blogging community is one of THE best communities out there (Not being biased AT ALL) but like all communities, there will always be scary little fish out there ready to bite when they hear another opinion. Oh yes, OTHER OPINIONS EXIST fishies. No need to bite. Keep calm. BEHIND THAT SCREEN AND ALL THOSE PIXELS, AN ACTUAL HUMAN EXISTS AND THEY HAVE FEELINGS TOOOOOOOOO! (Wow shocker…)
People have opinions and they may not be the same as yours. QUIT HATING. Why don’t you try posting a negative opinion of a something with a MASSIVE fandom? *internet explodes*
You ain’t gonna be an internet sensation overnight
Something I want EVERYONE that has ever considered blogging to know. Back when I had first started my blog, a lot of the days, I’d have 0 views and on a good day, maybe 5.
You have to proper work your butt off (That means no sleep and no social life) to get your blog up and running. It’s all a slow process. Sudden booms don’t happen I’m sorry.
So these are the things I wish I’d known before I started blogging. What are some things YOU wished you knew before you started blogging?
