I realised that I’ve never actually properly talked about my little (not) anime obsession, here you go! A post about 5 of my favourite anime. I specifically chose to talk about animes that are a bit more under the radar unlike say, Naruto and Fairy Tail. (I love them too though.)
I started watching anime ever since I was a toddler. Once I was old enough to start watching thing, my mum would put stuff like My Neighbour Totoro or Doraemon on. Anime had filled my childhood and whenever we had trips to Hong Kong, the only things that were bought for me essentially anime merch. I distinctly remember getting a little plastic key chain of Doraemon with a button for his pouch. All I had to do was press the button and his eyes were roll and change.
Anyways…Enough rambling….These aren’t in any particular order since I love them all so much and doing so would be torture…
Oh and I’ll try to omit any spoilers.
Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso/ Your Lie in April
This anime seriously changed me. It’s not really something that I normally watch, but I saw the animation and heard the soundtrack and that convinced me. Also, I’ve been wanting to watch music anime for a while so I figured that this was a good place to start. Funnily, I had no ideas what this anime was about before I started and neither did I know its ratings.
This anime made me cry so hard and even after months afterwards, I still get affected when I think about it. I can easily say that no other anime has made me cry harder than this.
The soundtracks are absolutely gorgeous and I still listen to them everyday.
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni/Higurashi When They Cry
Higurashi is probably my favourite horror anime, partly because it was my first real one. I first watched this when I was around 12, and fell in love with it soooooo hard. Split into 2 seasons, the first season makes you question everything and confuses the heck out of you while sucking you in. BUT WAIT. It’s worth it. Stick with it and EVERYTHING – and I mean EVERYTHING – becomes clear in the second season.
The amount of twists in this was A-MAZ-ING. The soundtracks were perfect and matched the theme of it perfectly.
I found it really weird and intriguing because the mood would constantly shift from a fun-happy-day-with-friends kinda mood to a dark, evil mood in literally seconds. I loved it.
Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova/Arpeggio of Blue Steel
I first discovered this anime, when my favourite singer at the time (maybe still now,) nano announced that she’d be singing a few songs for the anime. I loved loved LOVED the songs and 2 out of 3 of them quickly became all-time favourites. (I’m listening to them right now. THE FEEEEELS~)
The animation was really strange. I don’t know how to describe it but it was bright, clear and different to other anime I’ve seen. (I later found out it was CGI.) The anime was really different to what I normally watch as well – it was very sci-fi and military.
BattleSHIPS. FriendSHIPS. (See what I did there? *wags eyebrows*) Epic animation. It. Was. GOOOOOOOOD.
Whenever people hear this anime, I normally get one of two responses…
What? Who lied?
*facepalm* (Actually I found out I’ve been saying this wrong for years.) And…
That anime? Seriously? Way too much gore and nudity. Couldn’t get past 5 minutes of it.
IT’S HORRIBLEEEEEEE. Get past the first 10 minutes, and you’re pretty much set. It doesn’t get worse than that. It’s sad that this anime is only known for its nudity and gore. Get past that, and you have one of the greatest animes ever made.
It’s deep and really touches on how ugly humans can be, and how we can be so cruel to others that are different to us. It’s one of them short, 12 episode animes, so it’s perfect for a marathon.
Inu X Boku SS
It really annoys me how this anime only gets through the first part of the manga. After 12 episodes, it ends. The manga continues on after that. (Is it bad I still have 3 chapters left? I COULDN’T FIND THE TRANSLATIONS FOR IT. T^T) This anime was my first romance anime, and I really liked it.
It was cute, funny and relaxing. I don’t think I’ve ever said this before online, but I am obsessed with mythology. This anime had loads of Japanese mythology in it and I loved seeing Inu x Boku SS put a twist on it.
It’s a short post, but I really wanted to talk about anime XD Have you seen any of these? What’s some of your favourite anime and which do you wish more people watched?
