Why do we procrastinate

Why do we procrastinate?

This was something that hit me one day while I was deep in thought.

The short and easy answer would be something like; I don’t want to do work. But the thing is, we all know we have to work sooner or later. We’re just putting it off for later.

Later.

How do we know there’s a “later”? What is we don’t have a later? All those new things you want to try out, those places you want to visit, those things you want to do but you’ve never done because you thought, “Now’s not the time,” or “Maybe  later:” those things. Do them now.

Stop putting things off. Life is short. Unpredictable. You never know when you might die, when you might one day be unable to do those things.  Why do we procrastinate? Because we know that there’s time later for it. Time. But how much time do we really have?

You can break and arm and suddenly you can’t play the piano anymore. But that’s only temporarily. In a few months you’ll be able to again.

But what if next time you’re not so fortunate? What if next time you’re forced to have your arm amputated because the next accident that happens is that bad? What if you die?

Stop putting things off. Do those things you want to do, and enjoy every moment of it.

The next time you play the piano or whatever instrument you play, play it happily. Play a piece you want to play. Play and put your heart into it.

You like to sing? Do it. Do it confidently and put your heart into it. Who cares if you sound bad? Do it for yourself. Live happily.

The next time you draw or paint, put your heart into it. Express yourself. Paint what you want to paint. What if it’s your last time?

Do things for yourself.

I’m not saying live selfishly.

Live. Love. Be happy. Laugh. Help others. When you give, you actually receive more in the end and what you get is priceless.

Don’t do things for others. Don’t put make up on to impress that boy. Put make up on for yourself. Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not in order to fit in. Why fit in and live miserably?

So I’m saying, please. Go out. Do the things you have always wanted to do. Live without regrets and put your heart and soul into everything you do. Live a colourful life. Be the person that makes a difference. Live. Because you don’t know when life will be snatched away from you. Live. Laugh with your friends. Laugh with your family. Tell them you love them.

Don’t procrastinate. Live. Because you don’t know which is the day your life will be changed forever.

Life is short.

  1. Woah this was profound. But I really liked it! I think I’m enjoying how you expanded your content of your blog now. (Also, is it supposed to repeat twice or was that an accident?) Anyway, this was a really beautifully written post- fantastic job! 😀

  2. Omg this topic is something I’ve been thinking about a lot, lately. I keep telling my myself not to procrastinate but I always end up wasting time… it’s such a bad habit! But I loved this post… I just need to keep reading things like this and hopefully that will keep inspiring me to stop procrastinating! Also, you wrote this in such a beautiful way <3
